Introducing the British Association of Psychological Type's new website. Announcements Keeping you informed of the latest news about BAPT Upcoming Events The Emotions We Struggle to Access through the lens of the Enneagram We are delighted to welcome Samantha Mackay from Australia to our webinar programme. One element of improving our emotional intelligence is to become more familiar with our own emotions, particularly, those we accept and those we push away. Through the lens of the Enneagram, we see that each Enneagram Type struggles to accept at least one of the four core emotions - anger, sadness, fear and happiness. Through this lens we learn why we avoid them and how we can practice accepting them. With greater access to all our emotions, we have more compassion for ourselves, for others and can be more present in all our interactions. With practice, accepting all our emotions improves our Emotional Intelligence. Register here for the webinar. Published Thursday 6 March 2025 Upcoming Events Webinar A reminder of our upcoming webinar, 'The Power of Personality: Coaching with Temperament' hosted by Susan Nash, taking place on Wednesday 12 February from 5pm to 7pm GMT. Temperament provides unique insights for coaches and leaders in understanding their individual coaching style. In addition, knowledge of Temperament and core needs can help in recognising when to adapt their approach to different coaching preferences. Without flexing, there might be the chance of unconsciously alienating or causing stress to those you are coaching. In this interactive session, participants will be able to: Identify how to apply knowledge of Temperament to the coaching process: both as a Coach and a Coachee. Adapt their approach and word choice to positively impact coaching results. Susan Nash is owner of EM-Power, Inc., founder of the Type Academy, and author of over 11 books, nine on Whole Type. In addition, she is a global speaker on psychological type and its applications in improving self-understanding, coaching, and leadership effectiveness. Register here for the webinar. The Myers and Briggs Foundation describes the Myers-Briggs system as consisting of four preference pairs that reflect different aspects of personality—opposite ways to direct and receive energy through Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I), take in information with Sensing (S) or Intuition (N), come to conclusions using Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), and approach the outside world through Judging (J) or Perceiving (P). 16 Types: Key Words The Myers and Briggs Foundation describes the Myers-Briggs system as consisting of four preference pairs that reflect different aspects of personality—opposite ways to direct and receive energy through Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I), take in information with Sensing (S) or Intuition (N), come to conclusions using Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), and approach the outside world through Judging (J) or Perceiving (P). Most people find that one preference, in a preference pair, best describes their natural way of doing things, where they feel the most comfortable being themselves, outside of any roles they play in life. When the letters for each of these preferences are combined, 16 distinct personality types form which consist of different characteristics unique to that type. • Myers-Briggs Type | BAPT

Chances are you came to our website because you’ve taken or are interested in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator another psychological or personality type instrument. So what is the MBTI? The Myers Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI) Chances are you came to our website because you’ve taken or are interested in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator ® another psychological or personality type instrument. So what is the MBTI? The MBTI system is an indication (not a proof) of your likely psychological or p ersonality type . The MBTI instrument designed to help you identify your natural type preferences. The MBTI uses instrument items and scales to identify your preferred ways of perceiving (Sensing or Intuition), judging (Thinking or Feeling) and acquiring and using energy (Extraversion or Introversion). Myers and Briggs added a fourth pair of opposites, which they called Judging and Perceiving, identified as orientations towards the outside world. These four pairs of opposites are referred to as the preference pairs. Unlike most personality assessments, the MBTI is a preference type model, not a trait model - in other words it helps you identify your overall preferences along a series of spectrums, rather than ‘how much’ of a particular behaviour you exhibit. This is important, because behaviours change, whereas preferences tend to be more stable through life. For 50 years or so, the MBTI was the only game in town. Now there are many more ways to understand one’s type preferences - some of them very well researched and statistically reliable and valid, some of them not so much. The MBTI, like all good type instruments, is designed to be part of a conversation and exploration with a certified type practitioner or expert . BAPT maintains a register of type practitioners who can help you to discover your psychological or personality type. Our purpose here at BAPT is to help you understand and apply the insights that you have obtained through an assessment like the MBTI, and to support professional users of well-designed personality assessments using the type model. 16 Types: Key Words The 16 Types in Brief
